It is hard for me to believe that I am nearing the end of my first semester back at BYUI, and that of one pursuing Entrepreneurial Business. What a great class this has been. I have felt motivated, excited and encouraged by all of the great examples we have studied. This week has been no different.
We started this weeks study with a talk by President Monson entitled "An Attitude of Gratitude". It spoke a lot about how we can cultivate that attitude in our lives. If we are able to do that we will be able to have more joy and be closer to the Lord. I will strive to do this more in my life.
Then we studied 2 fantastic articles from the Harvard Business School. Both focused on how we can identify and exploit good opportunities for possible business. Something useful that I learned was that I need to think about my own capabilities and see how they compare with others that have the same ideas and goals. I should seek out things that I am passion about in a realistic fashion and then exploit my own special talents.
In the article "Identifying and Exploiting the Right Entrepreneurial Opportunity.... for you" it set out several ways to analyze whether different ideas were right for you in a business and a personal sense. I have saved them for later. In "Combining Entrepreneurship & Life" it spoke quite a bit about the characteristics that entrepreneurs usually embody. One that really stuck out to me was that they are good at identifying patterns as they engage deeply with others. They are able to apply what they are learning to meet a need within a market generally before their potential customers even recognize they have that need.
There were also a few good videos that we watched. I am storing up all of this information so that I can utilize it later in establishing my own business. It is a big world out there, and my opportunity awaits.
